He sat, staring at the glass in his hand for a few minutes as the heat of the fire worked its way through his bones. He shook his head to dislodge the confusing thoughts and knocked the drink back. He rose and removed the heavy teaching robes leaving him in a black trousers and a cream silk shirt he would never admit to having worn to please his…friend? Companion? To my eyes JK has spent the last three years reading fanfiction, both the good and the bad, and has cut and paste it together. I have seen better versions of parts of this book over the past few years and I truly feel that she has copped out.

Each and every death is scrapped over and I can barely remember who dies due to this style of writing. I found the book tedious and a relief to finish.

I can honestly say that the heart and soul of the Harry Potter series is held and protected better by the fanfiction community then by the creator herself.

Life Debts

A Life Debt occurs when a wizards life is saved by another. Their life then becomes the property of the other until either joint agreement is reached or magic itself decides the debt is repaid. Few tasks are denied except for The Code of Merlin.

If a wizard desires to enact a debt he must recite “per veneficus ego vindicatum vita ut est mei” (by magic I claim the life that is mine) within one full moon cycle of the event.

Magic can force a debt when a wizard commits a great wrong against another who then proceeds to save their life.

Purity of blood as known by the Founders of Hogwarts

Pure-Bloods
 
A Pure-Blood is defined as having two magical parents.

A child is still a pure-blood if one or both parents are muggleborn; they can create a new 'Family' if they desire to and are known as first generation pure-bloods.

Severus Snape

Half-Blood (mudblood)
 
A Half-Blood is defined as having one magical parent and one muggle.

If a Half-blood marries a magical person or a squib the child is a pure-blood and may take the name of the pure-blooded parent, male or female.

If a Half-blood marries a muggle the child is likely to be a squib unless the bloodline is especially powerful.

Frequently called Mud-Bloods by blood purists.

Squibs

When a child is born too weak to carry the magic of a Family the magic will cause the child to become a squib until one in the line is born strong enough to wield the magic.

However while magic is waiting for a strong child to be born it will pool itself, growing stronger and stronger, thus causing the Family Line to have to wait longer and longer for a magical child to be born. In rare occasions this can be for many generations, thus causing “Muggle-Borns
